An app to share rides

The main goal of the application would be to organize people together to share their cars and save money without losing any time and keeping people mobile. It could be a web app or an iPhone app with a goal to get the workers closer and encourage them to go to work together and save money and of course save the environment by using fewer cars. Since most of the people use smart phones with GPS, it is easy to build a schedule for each driver, the app could show the exact route, the pickup points and the live location of the car. Moreover the app will show if the driver has any slots available.

I know trust factor counts here, so what I thought that we can make it company based. While signing up, we will ask the user of their company name and once logged in, user can only see people from their company. It will resolve the trust issue.

Let me know how you find the idea.

    I Like your Idea. it's doable user having car can mention it's timing and route other people join him and can share rides.

    It is a pretty cool idea to reduce traffic congestion, But yes in a developing country like Pakistan where these days we have a very high crime rate, People usually avoid to take such risk so we should think some way out for that as well.

    We can limit it to company's users. We can't omit these trust issues but we need to find a way to limit it.

    A company having identities like NADRA can help to build trust. nadra provide services to different companies so we can act as hand shaker between two or more peoples.

    A nice practicable idea, only if we limit the domain and focus on intra-company functionality. Co-workers can trust each other and share the rides.
    I'm more concerned about the dependency of such app on smart phone with GPS and internet. There should also be a feature to facilitate basic phones through SMS.
